Do you ever feel like you don’t amount to much in this world?
I do. I hold down a full-time job, write on the side and take care of my elderly mother. I have a loving family and great friends. Why do I feel like this isn’t enough? Why do I feel like I should be doing more? More for family, more for God, more for me.
I can throw a big pity party when I dwell on the negative things. And I am very good at “dwelling.” It’s one of my specialties.
Thankfully, God has a remedy for all of this negative thinking.
In Philippians 1:6 Paul tells me that God started a good work in me and He will finish it.
So I am a work in progress.
God’s work – not mine. I must trust in Him to do the work and complete my transformation.
It’s not easy for me to turn lose and trust. Letting go is hard, but everything changes when I focus on the One I am trusting. God’s not asking me to put my trust in family, friends, my pastor or even myself.
God tells me to put my trust solely in Him. He began the work at the time of my salvation and He will complete it.
I won’t reach perfection on this earth. That’s not going to happen and that’s okay.
Perfection is overrated.
Fears, flaws, and failures make us human and allow us to relate to and encourage others. So if you’re like me and sometimes feel worthless and incomplete – STOP IT.
You are worth everything to God. Jesus gave His life to save and restore you.
Yes, you are incomplete, like an unfinished masterpiece, but that’s only temporary. God is working on you and me every day. He is perfecting us through every struggle, every problem, and every step we take.
He is preparing us for the day we will dwell with Him in Heaven in complete perfection.
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
